I used to have this small place up on a pair of private lakes in the Kawartha's. The place slept 8, but everyone had to rub themselves in vegetable oil first. It had all of the amenities of home, except an Internet hookup. The lakes are man-made, but well stocked with Bass and Pike. There are no power boats allowed, consequently, I went out and grabbed a couple of 14' yachts (canoes) and an electric motor (it's not that I'm lazy eh... really). It's a nice place, quiet in the summer and even quieter in the winter. Course, hardly anyone goes up in the winter because of how damn deep the snow gets... so I had to get a snowmobile as well, just something enough to get me in and out.

There are so many good things to be said for getting out of the city (but it isn't the black flies in the spring or the mosquitoes in the summer). It's a change I guess, a chance to get away from all those things that support your habit systems.

Looking North East from the little dock.

I guess it's a bit about being able to sorta breath the air, a little easier, about being able to see the stars at night (and there are a whack of them, so many my son insisted on a telescope), about relaxing in the bottom of a canoe (with your life jacket on of course) having a beer while fishing and waiting for that huge mother to bite (Don't have any beers though if you're on a public lake or in a power boat!!!, it's one thing to relax and take the world in, it's another thing to get just plain stupid, be responsible!).

On the way down to the lake. The kids little inflatable boat is there.

In 1997, I had my son fishing pretty much on his own. I just couldn't believe it when he caught a 26" Pike and brought it to shore by himself, and he was only 8 years old, that's a good start! It's amazing how they hate fish and won't eat them until they catch one, then they want to eat the whole damn thing, even if it's a sunfish or a perch. Now I just have to teach him how to clean them, then I'm all set...

Around this little place you can catch a lot of different types of fish.... all less than about an hours drive away. You can catch the usual crappies like Sunfish, Perch, Chub, Carp and Suckers, but you can also catch Pike, Largemouth & Smallmouth Bass, Pickerel, Muskinounge and five, count em, five flavors of trout.... Rainbow, Speckled/Brook, Lake, Brown and Splake. Salmon fishing is a little further.... about 2 hours away in Georgian Bay, Lake Huron or Lake Ontario. Deep sea fishing is even further still.... about 12 hours by car...

Unfortunately due to situations beyond my control, I had to give this place up for sale in 1999. But I wanted to leave the pictures up because it is a pretty place, quiet and well removed from the city.
